An growing number of Agtech companies

This includes companies such as Microphyt, Smag (InVivo group), ITK, Fruition Sciences,Matahi, Qualiplante, ADNid, Envilys, Nyseos, Ecofilae, Food Pilot, PimpUp, and more.

Montpellier Métropole, mobilized to support companies

Innovation is a cultural cornerstone of the Montpellier Métropole area, stimulated by an ecosystem that provides support and assistance, whose vitality is rooted in long-standing expertise. Montpellier was the first city in France to launch a Business & Innovation Centre, back in 1987, when we created Cap Alpha.

Today, the Montpellier BIC incubator is recognized worldwide and continues to assist up-and-coming startups with the same passion as always. Example include Airgaia, Rosella Biosystem, and Greenphage, among many others.

Montpellier Métropole, a pioneering territory

A pioneer in the field of assisting businesses, Montpellier Métropole is also committed to an ambitious agro-ecological and food policy intended to make the territory exemplary.

To achieve significant impact and create the conditions for agricultural resilience and food sovereignty, while at the same time contributing to the region’s adaptation to climate change, we are implementing a strategy based on five key objectives:

  • Forge an agro-ecological territory that preserves natural resources and landscape heritage
  • Create a sustainable and resilient food supply that supports local jobs in farming and the agri-food industry
  • Enable all residents to have access to the quality food of their choice
  • Promote dialog between the scientific community and the general public
  • Implement food governance

BoCal is a step in this direction, promoting both agro-ecology and healthy, high-quality food.

The DIVA program example

Backed by Montpellier Métropole from the outset, the European DIVA program  has confirmed that the greater Montpellier area is a cradle of talent for agri-digital solutions.  134 projects were selected in 2021 from nine countries around Europe. 46 of the projects were from France. Among those, nine were from the Montpellier Métropole area. The projects were presented by Ecofilae, Fruition Sciences, E-Tumba, Cap2020, IAdvance, Ecoclimasol, Permagro, Syha, and Mycea.
